Retention Knob DIN69872-1988, also known as the DIN pull stud, can be customized to different sizes as customer’s requirement, is a fastening element used for the clamping of tool holders in CNC machines, and it conforms to the German Industrial Standard DIN 69872.
Retention Knob DIN69872-1988, also known as pull studs, are divided into two types: Type A and Type B. Type A features a through-hole, which the spindle can discharge water, the iron filings can be flushed out by water pressure when drilling; while Type B does not have a through-hole but instead has a sealing ring groove to prevent coolant leakage from the rear end.

The preliminary shape of the pull stud is manufactured using casting and forging methods. After forging or casting, the components are machined to the required dimensions through CNC machining. Following machining, heat treatment is conducted to enhance the strength of the pull stud. Then, after surface treatment, thread rolling is performed using two dies, one stationary and the other moving, applying pressure to the pull stud to form the threads.
1. What is a DIN pull stud?
A DIN pull stud, also known as a retaining screw or a pull knob, is a bolt-like component that connects the draw bar of a CNC machine to the tool holder. They are used to securely pull the tool holder into the spindle and automatically release the tool holder.
2. Are DIN pull studs interchangeable?
Although they may look similar, DIN pull studs are not always interchangeable. Only the pull studs specified by the machine tool manufacturer should be used.
3. What are the material and heat treatment of DIN pull studs?
High-quality DIN pull studs are typically made from special high-grade steel and are properly heat-treated to increase rigidity.
